By participating in this monumental effort, turfgrass professionals can demonstrate their commitment to continued research and help shape the future of the industry. As stated in its new set of Bylaws, the purpose of the Ohio Turfgrass Research Trust "is to operate exclusively for charitable purposes…and shall be to engage in research and education activities relating to the planting, growing and marketing of turfgrass, including but not limited to research through grants and awarding scholarships to students studying the field..." The Ohio Turfgrass Research Trust is classified as an educational foundation exempt from taxation under the 501(c) 3 code of the Internal Revenue Service. Therefore, contributions to the research trust are tax deductible for federal income tax purposes. What does this mean to you? It means that when you make a contribution to OTRT, 100% may be deducted as a charitable contribution, rather than a business expense. Additionally, interest income earned by the research trust is non-taxable; thereby enabling more money to be used for turfgrass research and education. Thus far, the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation has helped fund the Ohio Turfgrass Research Trust by donating proceeds from the Annual OTF Golf Tournament and the Live/Silent Auctions. Additional funds will be raised through voluntary contributions from the OTF membership as well as through other fund-raising activities. Everyone in the turfgrass industry is encouraged to help support this important endeavor by making a tax exempt contribution. |
